How We Started
In 1955, Guy Watson started framing his creations in the basement of his Kanawha City home. He then started framing for fellow artists, friends, and family and moved the shop to his garage. As the business grew, a bigger space was needed.
In 1984, Guy purchased an older home in West Charleston and converted it into what is now the current location of Watson Picture Framing at 306 Lee Street West. Guy always said that every piece of art deserves its own frame.
Steve Murray
Steve Murray has been with Watson Picture Framing since 1972, when he married Guy Watson’s oldest daughter Sherry. He began helping Guy in his garage and later helped with the relocation to our current location in West Charleston. When Guy passed away in 1986, he left the business to his two daughters, Sherry and Barbara. Steve then assumed the role of custom framer and restoration specialist. He is known for his attention to detail, making certain that every piece of art that leaves Watson Picture Framing is exactly what the customer wanted. Steve is proud to know his name is on the back of thousands of frames across the Kanawha Valley.
Michelle Murray
Michelle Murray joined the Watson family in 2004, when she married Nick who is Guy Watson’s grandson. Beginning in 2022, Michelle represents the 3rd generation to manage the business. She has taken on the role of decorative arts consultant helping customers choose just the right mat and/or frame to perfect the look of their beautiful artwork. With her years of experience in special event planning as well as arts and crafts, Michelle brings those skills into the picture framing business. Getting to know the needs of each customer and the story behind the piece of art is something Michelle loves to do. With Michelle at Watson Picture Framing, you are guaranteed to piece together artwork perfection for both the home and office.
